What happens to your email address

Short version: it goes on a mailing list so I can email you, and nowhere else. Nothing is sold, and nothing is handed to an advertiser. The longer version is below, because "we value your privacy" is not an answer.

What I actually collect

Your email address, when you type it into the Christmas Money Check at christmascheck.spendergirlie.com. That is the only thing it asks for.

If you use the Christmas Money Check, the numbers you put in are saved against your contact record as well: what Christmas came to, what you had already put aside, what you found and what was left. That is so the plan I email you matches the one you just made, and so a later email can pick up where you left off. The numbers are yours. I do not look at them next to your name, and they are never passed to anyone.

Your plan itself is not stored on a server at all. It travels in the web address — that long ?p= on the end of the link — which is why the link in your email brings the whole thing back. Anyone you send that link to can see that plan, so send it to people you would tell anyway.

Where it is kept

In Resend, which is the service that stores the mailing list and sends the emails. The sites themselves run on Vercel. Both are American companies, so your address is stored and processed outside Australia.

Visits and where the click came from

Both sites use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and button clicks without cookies and without building a profile of you. I can see that forty people opened the Money Check today and that eleven came from TikTok. I cannot see which one was you.

That is what the ?src= on the end of some links is doing: it carries the platform a click came from, so I know whether a video was worth making. It is the name of a platform, not a name for you.

If you buy something

The Gift List and the Planner are sold through Payhip, which takes the payment and delivers the file. Your card details go to Payhip and its payment processor. They never reach me and I could not see them if I wanted to.

If you tick the marketing box at the Payhip checkout, your address is added to the list for the thing you bought. If you leave it unticked, it is not. If you had already unsubscribed from the emails, buying something does not put you back on: an unsubscribe stays an unsubscribe.

Emails, and stopping them

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and most mail apps show their own unsubscribe button at the top. One press and the emails stop. You do not have to tell me why and you will not get a "sorry to see you go" sequence.

Getting your data deleted

Email hello@spendergirlie.com from the address you signed up with and ask. Your contact record and anything attached to it come off the list. You can also ask for a copy of what is held, which is a short list: your address, the date you signed up, and the Christmas numbers if you used the tool.

Children

None of this is built for or aimed at anyone under 16, and I do not knowingly keep an address belonging to one.

When this changes

If what the sites collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves. It is not a long page because there is not much to say.
